Recent interview for Australia's Morning Roar

Posted by musicpre on July 21, 2015

I was recently interviewed for the Morning Roar on my morning routine. The interview is below.

The Interview

1. WHAT TIME DO YOU START YOUR DAY?

Generally 7:50am. Sometimes earlier. It seems to be my internal alarm. If I am traveling I tend to get up around 6am so as to hit the gym before my day starts.

2. WHAT IS THE VERY FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?

a) I look over at my wife and remind myself how lucky I am to be where I am. These days I look at my 6 month old daughter too… and sometimes my 5 year old son if he’s somehow got into they bed during the early hours of the morning. That’s the personal stuff. b) Then I check my emails and schedule of events for the day. c)Then I head to the gym to work with my personal trainer.

3. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE THAT HELPS YOU GET THE BEST START?

a) I believe it is important to be thankful for what we have and where we are in life, we can have dreams and a vision of the future but it is important to take time appreciating the present.

b) I like to go to bed with the next day’s plans laid out but because I work with people all over the world things can develop during the night. For that reason I like to prep myself before the day begins. Helps me visualize how I want the day to go.

c) Each year in my family we choose a word of the year, mine is “Health” so I have upped my game. I strongly believe that if you want to obtain your business and personal goals you should set yourself a physical goal too. Chances are if you work hard at one they will all be obtained, if you slack on your health goals you’re likely slacking on the others too! Working with a personal trainer constantly pushes my physical and mental limits and inspires me to apply the same drive to everything I do.

4. ARE YOU A CAT OR DOG PERSON AND WHY? (NO REASON, JUST THOUGHT I’D ASK!)

I am both. These days I feel more connected to our dog as we are hiking buddies. I invite the cat but he has yet to show interest…

5. WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? (I MEAN, WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO DO WHAT YOU DO?)

I want to do meaningful work that makes a difference in people’s lives. Music has the power to change lives, it has changed mine and has been my passion since as long as I can remember. Being involved in music related projects makes me excited everyday. I am always aware that time is all we have and how we spend it is up to us. Everyday I check in with myself to make sure I am using my time wisely toward something that in return provides me with value. I can dedicate myself 110% to something if it provides that value and aligns with the vision I have for my life. If these things align then motivation to carry out the work comes effortlessly.

6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COCKTAIL? (THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING, I JUST THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN TO ASK! I PERSONALLY DON’T HAVE ONE, I RARELY DRINK.)

I don’t really have one as I barely ever drink anything but water. Back in the day it used to be mojitos. The last time I drank those was at my own wedding and I prefer not to think about the day after… These days I love my morning homemade smoothies.

7. WHAT IS YOU FAVORITE RESOURCE/TOOL TO HELP YOU PREPARE FOR THE DAY? E.G 5 MINUTE JOURNAL OR THE HEADSPACE MEDITATION APP.

I’m a big fan of Evernote. I use Apple products for scheduling and todo lists although I quite like the 2Do app (can’t remember the company that puts it out). I also use Ulysses to write with on my macs and the Daedalus app on my iphone, iPod an iPad. I use the Pomodoro app to make sure I am working with focus.

8. WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON? (YOU’RE LIKELY WORKING ON MANY THINGS — WHICH ONE EXCITES YOU THE MOST)

I am working on a number of exciting projects, but one that stands out is National Chord. I am the executive producer of National Chord, a project devoted to recognizing the legacy of Canadian music and documenting the stories of 150 of its most influential artists. Each artist’s story is being captured and told through photography, words and film. This project will coincide with Canada’s 150th birthday celebration and supports the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA’s) Arts Nation initiative. We are working closely with MusiCounts, CARAS, The Juno Awards, The Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards and Fairmont Hotels. As a Canadian this project is especially meaningful for me as it really is a legacy piece.

9. IF YOU COULD ONLY DO ONE THING EVERY MORNING TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE COMING DAY AND YOU ONLY HAD 5 MINUTES BEFORE YOU WERE THRUST FORWARD INTO YOUR DAY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Tabata training exercises, nothing like getting your heart pumping to give you a kick of positive energy to start a new day.

10. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I DIDN’T ASK THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

I am always keen on meeting people and connecting dots. If anyone would like to be in touch I can be reached at aaron(at)aaronbethune.com
